Biological and Pharmacological Properties of Carbon Monoxide: A General Overview

چکیده
Carbon monoxide (CO) is one of the most common causes inhalation poisoning worldwide. However, it also well known that CO produced endogenously in heme degradation reaction catalyzed by oxygenase (HO) enzymes. HO catalyzes to equimolar quantities CO, iron ions (Fe2+), and biliverdin. Three oxygen molecules (O2) electrons provided NADPH-dependent cytochrome P450 reductase are used reaction. enzymes comprise three distinct isozymes: inducible form, oxygenase-1 (HO-1); constitutively expressed isozyme, oxygenase-2 (HO-2); oxygenase-3 (HO-3), which ubiquitously but possesses low catalytic activity. According some authors, HO-3 rather a pseudogene originating from HO-2 transcript, has only been identified rats. Therefore, cellular activity two major isoforms—the HO-1 HO-2. For many years, generated was treated as by-product metabolism without any serious physiological or biochemical significance, while exogenous considered an extremely toxic gas with lethal effects. Research recent years proven endogenous (which may be surprising, given public perceptions) acts not agent affects intracellular pathways, therapeutic molecule. Hence, modulation HO/CO system option for potential strategy. Another administration inhalation. As alternatives administration, compounds CO-releasing (CORMs) can administered, since they safely release body. The aim this article provide brief overview properties its potential.

15 صفحه اولBiological signaling by carbon monoxide and carbon monoxide-releasing molecules.
Carbon monoxide (CO) is continuously produced in mammalian cells during the degradation of heme. It is a stable gaseous molecule that reacts selectively with transition metals in a specific redox state, and these characteristics restrict the interaction of CO with defined biological targets that transduce its signaling activity. Because of the high affinity of CO for ferrous heme, these targets...

Indole is a nitrogen-containing heterocycle. It is a very important motif in agriculture and pharmacy. Many compounds containing indole moiety has been isolated form nature. It is also an important part in natural alkaloids. Tryptophan is an amino acid which posses indole. 3-Sustituted indoles are the main group of its derivatives. Because the wide-spread application of 3-substituted indolic co...

متن کاملCarbon monoxide: endogenous production, physiological functions, and pharmacological applications.
Over the last decade, studies have unraveled many aspects of endogenous production and physiological functions of carbon monoxide (CO). The majority of endogenous CO is produced in a reaction catalyzed by the enzyme heme oxygenase (HO). Inducible HO (HO-1) and constitutive HO (HO-2) are mostly recognized for their roles in the oxidation of heme and production of CO and biliverdin, whereas the b...
